Expats are offered a lot of savings products, some excellent and some expensive. The difference often hides in the charges, the term and how easily you can leave.
What gets looked at
- Total cost shown as a yearly percentage and in money over time
- The term and what happens if you stop early
- Fund choice and whether you can move the plan if you move country
- How the provider is regulated and what protection exists
- Whether an existing plan is worth keeping
Common questions
I already have a savings plan. Should I stop paying?
Do not stop until you know the surrender value and the charges. Stopping can make things worse.
What should I ask before signing anything?
Ask for all charges in writing, the full term, the penalties for stopping, and who regulates the provider.
Can I invest while living abroad?
Yes. The choice of structure depends on your residency now and later.
